Using Yahoo or Google Groups for Marketing

Do you belong to any groups? Yahoo groups, Google groups…etc?

I subscribed to many groups and I get the digest of the group discussion every day. A lot of the people who participate in the groups are your highly targeted customers. For instance, if you join a soap making group, everyone who joins the group is soap maker or learning to be a soap maker. The people who started the group are usually experts or even owners of soap making stores.

If you start a group, make sure to share your experience with other members, not just try to sell your products. The group members usually ask a lot of questions, so you don’t really have to come up with a lot of information on your own. Other members are also willing to participate and answer each other’s questions. I am sure everyone would love to get a deal once in a while as well. If you are running a business of the group interest, be sure to share a coupon code to encourage the members to visit your business once in a while.

I like groups because I get a summary of the discussion right to my email, I don’t have to go visit the group on any particular sites. However, the same idea applies to online forums as well.

You can find plenty of groups on Yahoo, Google, and many many sites. They are highly targeted (I belong to a group that discuss rice cooker!! Figure how “niche” it can go). Either join one, or start a new one and be an expert in front of your target customers.
